Should our three school districts become one?
A Vermont law, Act 170, requires the Burlington, South Burlington, and Winooski school districts to study that question together. A committee of school board members from all three districts is doing the study. The committee has not decided anything.

What the committee is studying
The committee will recommend whether it is "advisable" for the three districts to form one district with one school board. Its report must look at the strengths and challenges of each district today, how students would get access to career and technical education, and whether a new district would give every student an equal chance at an excellent education at a cost voters value.
- By September 1, 2027: the committee sends its report to the three school boards and the state.
- By December 15, 2027: the State Board of Education reviews any proposed merger.
- March 7, 2028: if the committee proposes a merger, voters in each district vote on it.
